When Silence Becomes Fear: Ritu Jarwal’s Debut Horror Novel Veerangarh Sends Chills Down the Spine
In the ever-evolving landscape of Indian fiction, a chilling new voice has made its presence felt in the horror and mystery genre. Ritu Jarwal, a debut author, has released her first novel, Veerangarh: Where Silence Screams, a haunting tale that explores fear not through loud terror—but through unsettling silence. Published by BlueRose Publishers, the book was officially released on January 19, 2025, and is already drawing attention from readers who enjoy psychological horror and suspense-driven narratives.
Unlike conventional horror stories that rely on shock and gore, Veerangarh builds its terror slowly, immersing readers into an eerie atmosphere where silence itself becomes the most frightening character.
A Village Where Secrets Refuse to Stay Buried
Set in a cursed village shadowed by an ancient mansion, Veerangarh revolves around the lingering presence of Mohini, a restless spirit bound by betrayal, lost love, and unresolved truths. Years ago, her reign of terror mysteriously ended—or so the villagers believed. The quiet that followed was not peace, but suppression.
The story takes a gripping turn with the arrival of Nitin, an outsider whose presence disturbs the fragile stillness of the village. As he begins to uncover long-buried secrets, he finds himself trapped in a dangerous loop of time, fear, and hidden realities. With every unanswered question, the silence grows heavier—and deadlier.
Jarwal skillfully uses the setting as a psychological device, transforming empty spaces, abandoned corridors, and unspoken memories into tools of terror. The village itself feels alive, watching, and waiting.
Horror That Lingers in the Mind
What sets Veerangarh: Where Silence Screams apart is its layered storytelling. The novel blends mystery, psychological horror, and emotional depth, making it more than just a ghost story. Readers are invited to question what is real, what is remembered, and what has been deliberately forgotten.
Reflecting on the theme of the book, Ritu Jarwal shares:
“Silence can be far more terrifying than a scream—because silence hides the truth and echoes within.”
This philosophy runs through every chapter, making the novel resonate long after the final page is turned. The fear in Veerangarh does not fade quickly; it lingers, much like the secrets it reveals.
A Promising Debut in Indian Horror Fiction
Despite being her debut work, Jarwal demonstrates remarkable control over pacing and atmosphere. The narrative is tightly woven, with suspense building steadily rather than relying on predictable twists. Her writing appeals not only to hardcore horror enthusiasts but also to young adult readers and fans of mystery thrillers looking for something psychologically engaging.
The novel also reflects a growing trend in Indian literature—stories rooted in local settings and folklore, yet universal in emotional impact.
Availability and Reader Access
Veerangarh: Where Silence Screams is now available on major online platforms including Amazon, Flipkart, and Kindle, making it easily accessible to readers across India and beyond. The book is available in multiple formats, catering to both physical book lovers and digital readers.
Final Thoughts
In a genre crowded with noise, Veerangarh dares to whisper—and that is precisely what makes it powerful. Ritu Jarwal’s debut marks the arrival of a compelling new storyteller in Indian horror fiction, one who understands that the most haunting fears are often the ones left unspoken.
For readers seeking a suspenseful, atmospheric, and emotionally resonant horror novel, Veerangarh: Where Silence Screams is a must-read.
