Shanaya Singh: The Young Storytelling Prodigy Leading

Kolkata’s Hunger-Free Movement

In a world where social change is often sparked by powerful voices, 11-year-old Shanaya Singh, a student of Mahadevi Birla World Academy, Kolkata, is emerging as one of India’s youngest and brightest torchbearers of hope, compassion, and creativity. A celebrated storyteller and record holder, Shanaya was recently invited by the Kolkata We Care Project for a special storytelling session at the inauguration of their Food ATM — an initiative aimed at eradicating hunger across the city.

During the event, Shanaya not only donated food but also delivered a touching story that left a lasting impression on every listener. Her deep commitment to the cause earned her the prestigious role of Brand Ambassador for the Food ATM Drive by Kolkata We Care Project. As the face of this noble campaign, Shanaya now connects with children across multiple platforms every weekend, educating them about hunger issues and encouraging them to join this transformative movement.

The event received praise from several dignitaries including Shri Javed Ahmed Khan, Minister of Disaster Management and Civil Defence (TMC – West Bengal), and Maria Fernandes, Vice Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Women and Forest Development. Teachers from various schools also lauded Shanaya’s storytelling brilliance and social commitment.

Shanaya is not just a storyteller — she’s a phenomenon. She is a World Record Holder, recognized by:

  • The International Book of Records.
  • Asia Book of Records.

Internationally, she has been nominated for the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar and was named among the Top 50 World’s Most Influential Young Leaders by the Worldwide Leaders Association and the American International Education Federation.

A Champion of Literacy and Compassion

Shanaya’s mission extends far beyond recognition. She is the founder of a free online storytelling club for over 150 children around the world, where she promotes literacy, empathy, and creativity through regular sessions.

Her storytelling talent has been showcased by numerous esteemed institutions including:

  • Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle Comics Studios, Mumbai.

Shanaya is a published author whose book, The World Needs Stories, has been released globally. Her stories have also been featured in Singapore’s Borderless Journal and she is an in-house writer for Bookosmia.

Looking Ahead

With the ongoing support of the Kolkata We Care Project, educators, and civil society leaders, Shanaya is leveraging her platform to promote hunger relief, youth empowerment, and reading culture. Her advocacy of the Food ATM drive is not merely a campaign — it’s a heartfelt mission to build a more compassionate and inclusive world.

“She is able to balance her studies and passion only because of amazing mentors and teachers,” says her family, acknowledging the crucial role of community support in her journey.

Why Shanaya Matters

At just 11 years old, Shanaya Singh exemplifies how one child’s voice can spark global inspiration. Through her stories, campaigns, and community efforts, she’s leading a new generation of young changemakers who believe in the power of words, empathy, and action.
